The sun was shining, the temperature was nice and mild (as in above 10 degrees celcius!), so off we went to Fort Walton Beach. We started out by

enjoying a seafood lunch at what is described as "the original" Crab Shack on the Gulf Shores. The restaurant itself was not fancy by any means, but it did serve excellent, fresh seafood which was cooked just right. We ordered the Crabby Basket, mine with shrimp and Marc's with scallops and enjoyed our meal outside, at a picnic table, taking in the view. No fuss, no muss, but quite delicious!

Afterwards, we spent a couple of hours sightseeing at the Fort Walton Beach Harbor. The harbour has a long pier on which you can stroll (for a nominal fee, of course), a few seafood restaurants and bars, t-shirt/kite stores and volleyball courts. The beach was clean, and some brave children were actually swimming.
We ended this great day by stopping for ice cream on the way home. What's a trip without the odd sinful treat, right?!
