Big Lagoon State Park

It was back to nature for us this past week.  Big Lagoon State Park is located in Pensacola, Florida, practically on the Florida-Alabama state line.  The park is well maintained and the lots are large.  We had very few neighbours during
our week's stay.  We enjoyed the lovely hiking trails, although hiking in sand is a little more difficult than on packed soil.  (But surely better for the waistline!)  It was somewhat strange seeing signs warning of aligators along the trails!

We spent two to three hours every day or so shelling on Perdido Key, south of Pensacola (Perdido Key is an extension of Santa Rosa Island).  It is more developed than Santa Rosa Island and offers an excellent variety of restaurants to choose from.  We had dinner at the most amazing Mexican restaurant...mmmm...mole chicken!

Back to shelling!  The trick to shelling is to be up before the birds.  As the saying goes:  Early bird gets the worm.  Against the retiree code, we usually set our alarm for 6:30 a.m. and were on the beach by 7:15.

Our assortment of shells is definitely growing, to the point where we are only keeping the best and dumping the rest.  We are including two pictures which show some of the shells we have identified through research.
