Dining On The Fly!

On our travels, we stopped for lunch at Lambert's, a family-style restaurant with a very rustic look.  Even the restrooms were made to look like an outhouse!  It was a loud place, with wait staff rushing around and
patrons clearly enjoying themselves.  Sound like fun?  You don't know the half of it!  (Their website, clearly spelled out under their name at the front of the restaurant, should have been an indication of things to come!)

When our waitress came by to take our order, she was carrying a pitcher of coke and accidentally dropped the pitcher on its side, inches from Marc's lap!  Marc and I screamed but quickly realized there was no mess!  It was a "joke pitcher!"  Well, we can take a joke as well as the next guy, and had a good laugh, as did people at nearby tables.

We each ordered a light lunch, which came with "pass-arounds." We had no idea what pass-arounds were, but were willing to give it a try.

Within a few minutes of ordering, a different server came over and offered us some fried okra from a tray.  We pointed out that we did not yet have a plate.  No problem.  She told us to use a napkin from the roll of paper towels sitting against the wall of our booth.  Cool...a nice, informal lunch...!

But the day's entertainment was not yet over!  A young waiter came around with a cart on which he had no less than 3 trays of fresh-baked rolls.  Beautiful, huge rolls.  He then began to throw them at anyone who wanted one!  Sometimes right across the room!  They were so hot, we could barely hold them, yet if you asked for one, you had no choice but to catch it!

The parade of pass-arounds continued.  There were black-eyed peas, macaroni and tomato, and scalloped potatoes.  Our meal was very large (as is every meal in the South!), so we did not partake in any of the offerings.

Overall, this was the most fun we have ever had at a restaurant, although our nerves were frayed by the time we left!

  1. That sounds like a blast! We'll have to check it out sometime. I think my father-in-law was talking about that resteraunt a couple days ago, saying that they had to get over there while down this way. Is it near Foley? Hope you two are enjoying your "vacation". Take care.
