If you have been following Juanita over the past two-plus years, you might be wondering why our posts have been few and far between since we arrived in Florida in mid-October. A few posts back, I explained that
we had decided to pack up and move to another park on January 23 - approximately two weeks from now.
We must admit, it is very unusual for Marc and I to be bored, and it is definitely not easy to take. After all, one can only do so much shopping! In the meantime, please bear with me as I tell you silly stories which will hopefully convince you that we have not completely forgotten our readers!
On New Year's Eve, we headed to Wind Creek Casino to ring in the new year in the same way we have for the last couple of years. Wind Creek Casino is located just a short couple of miles across the Florida border, north of Atmore. It is literally in the middle of nowhere. If you ever enter the search into your GPS, you will be convinced you are lost. But no worries. Drive on and you will definitely come upon the Wind Creek Casino/Hotel in all its glory.
All this to say we had a great time. We had 8:00 p.m. dinner reservations, after which we hit the slots while listening to an excellent live band. At midnight, champagne flowed freely and the celebrating went on (for some more than others!). We left at approximately 20 minutes past midnight, wanting to get a jump on leaving the overcrowded parking lot.
Just as an aside, if you are American, you know how pronounced a deep south accent can be. As Canadians, not so much. Well, one particular player I sat next to for about half an hour chatted me up three times during that period and I am ashamed to say I could not make out one word of what she said. If she smiled, so did I; if she laughed...well, you get the picture! Hey, we take our fun where we can get it!
On the way home, on the westbound I-10, we came across a number of signs warning of "smoke" ahead. The warnings were posted on huge electronic flashing signs and cautioned drivers to slow down as there was thick smoke on the road up ahead. Of course, we believed it was a fire. No, folks, it was actually fog! So another southern thing, perhaps? Either way, we made it home safely, smoke and all! :D
