(another city on our list of places to see).
Destin is known for its colourful harbour. Thanks to BP, it is very quiet at this time, with only the odd tourist walking along the boardwalk. One of the local harbour staff explained that most charter boat owners were hired by BP following the oil spill and returned to a practically non-existant business. Very sad, indeed. But they are a very optimistic and resilient bunch and are looking forward to tourists returning very soon.
The restaurants offer all manner of seafood and the usual sea-themed souvenirs can be found in the harbour-front stores, admittedly of a much higher quality than we usually see in such tourist spots.
This is a test...
ReplyDeleteGuess it works, have to do it under anonymous, Pete
ReplyDeleteAh you're becoming Americanized already with the miles thingy.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work. I enjoyed hearing about the aftermath of the BP spill.
