Town of Fairhope, Alabama

We recently visited the neighbouring town of Fairhope, approximately 25 km from the RV park. I had been wanting to see it since our arrival, to check out the beaches and surrounding area.
The beaches were a disappointment, but the pier
was impressive. The beachfronts were full of some unknown black seaweed-type debris and some litter left by inconsiderate visitors. The sand beige in colour and coarser than what we had become accustomed to in Florida and at Orange Beach, Alabama.   (NOTE:  This is winter in the South and we are confident the beaches will be cleaned up in time for the summer crowd.)

The pier was another story. It was well maintained and extremely long, with a restaurant halfway.  All along the pier, on both sides, were wooden benches with "stories" of fishermen from the area who were lost at sea.  If you are a fan of the TV show "Survivor," you will understand why we felt as though we should have a lighted torch to place at each bench as the sailor was remembered.

Although the beaches failed to impress, the town of Fairhope did not.  It is a pretty town, clean, beautifully landscaped, with dozens of tiny shops to choose from.  What most impressed us were the huge old trees lining the streets.
