St. Petersburg and Madeira Beach

On Tuesday, we spent a very enjoyable day in St. Petersburg (1.5 hrs. from Winter Haven).  Friends from Ottawa who own a home there invited us to lunch.  About 50 miles outside of Winter Haven, we drove
past an Airstream RV dealership which had a very unique way of advertising its product.

After lunch and a great visit with our friends, Marc and I decided that since the day was young, we would spend some time touring the area.  Our friends recommended John's Pass, a waterfront tourist hot spot on Madeira Beach, right on the Gulf.  There were some very cool boutiques, ice cream shops, the usual tourist traps, of course, and a few restaurants advertising the fresh catch of the day. What really stood out were the cool tour boats.  Oh, and let's not forget the pelicans!

We took a leisurely stroll on the boardwalk and headed home around 5:00 p.m., which turned out to be a bad move;  we hit traffic hour and moved at a snail's pace for a good part of the drive home!
