Not Much Has Changed...

We took a nice, leisurely drive to the Gulf Coast today,  our destination Fort Morgan, the very tip of Perdido Key, west of Orange Beach.  This scenic road offered some of the most beautiful sights we had seen in a long time.  The homes along the way were lovely, of course,
but it was the trees which had us fascinated.  Tall palms and old oak trees lined the road, their branches often reaching over to crisscross with those branches on the other side of the road.  Add some moss to that and...well, what can we say?!

It was back to reality, however, when we parked and walked to the beach to check out the seashell situation.  Lately, media have been reporting that tar balls are outnumbering seashells on the local beaches.  We believed these reports to be blatant exaggeration.  We are sad to confirm these reports are indeed based on fact.  There were tarballs everywhere;  small, but there nonetheless.  And beaches in this area have already undergone the clean-up process.

Even more upsetting to us what witnessing the sight of so many offshore drilling platforms.  Being from Canada, we expected to spot maybe one or two of these platforms, not over a dozen!  They were the first thing the eye was attracted to when looking out to sea.  In this one picture, you will be able to count 7 platforms.  And this is just one of three pictures we took standing in that one spot on the beach.

I am certain, for southern folk, this is commonplace, but as northerners, we were shaken by this site.  If one oil leak can cause such damage, image 6 or 7 or 10....

On a lighter note, we also spotted everyone's #1 beach enemy:  the jelly fish!  We are including a picture, just for the fun of it!
