Tin City...

As most people do when arriving in a new city, we picked up brochures about local sights and attractions.  One such brochure was for Tin City, touted as being the "soul of old Florida."  This historical area of
Naples was, in the 1920s, the hub of the fishing industry.  The buildings, which were home to clam shelling, oyster processing and boat construction, all had tin-roofed buildings, hence "Tin City."

In the 1970s, seven of these tin-topped buildings were converted into an "Old Marine Marketplace at Tin City."  Today, Tin City occupies three of these buildings, has a waterfront boardwalk and more than 30 shops.

Although we enjoyed our visit to Tin City and made a few purchases at a couple of their specialty shops,  upon our return to the park, we were told by other RV-ers that this area of old Naples used to be much more grandiose a few years back, but has scaled down drastically.  Perhaps they, too, have been hit by the ailing economy.......
