We Have Arrived!

We have arrived in Quartzsite, the western-most destination of this winter season.  And it was a long drive fraught with
many mishaps.  But that is all behind us now.

Quartzsite, as you may know, is a very small town - population 3,500 in the summertime - which grows to well over a million in the winter months.  The residents of Quartzsite are obviously welcoming to us snowbirds, but we learned very quickly that, although the town may grow in size in the wintertime, the slow, small-town pace remains.

The attraction to Quartzsite is its incredible flea markets.  Vendors come from all over the world to peddle their wares.  The largest selling items are rocks and minerals and, of course, RV supplies and RVs themselves.  There are no less than four to five flea markets running simultaneously in this small town, with anywhere from 200 to 400 or more vendors per market (or "show" as they are called here).  As soon as one show comes to an end, another starts up.  Each show can last from two weeks to three months or longer.

We have so far spent three days shopping and have already made a few cool purchases.  My thing is turquoise and lapis jewellery, specifically rings and bracelets, as well as handmade Navajo jewellery.  So here, I am a very happy camper!  As for Marc, he has asked me to point out to our male readers that, for once, selection is definitely geared towards men rather than women.  Tools, tools and more tools!
