Apache Junction, AZ

We expected Apache Junction to be a tiny village at the entrance to the Apache Trail.  To our surprise, it is a fairly large town, elevation 1,750 feet above sea level, with a population of just about 80,000.  The backdrop to the town are the lovely Superstition Mountains.  Each year,
Apache Junction welcomes more than 40,000 visitors and seasonal residents, many of these from Canada.

Judging by the number of RV parks in Apache Junction, it is definitely big business here.  Unfortunately, we arrived the day before a (Boston marathon) qualifying race, so every park was completely booked.  We ended up finding an RV park, quite by chance, seven miles outside of Apache Junction:  Canyon Vistas RV Park, a 55-plus, five-star park with all the bells and whistles.  Although their rate was higher than what we consider average, with our Passport America discount (50% off), we paid a very reasonable nightly rate just under $20.  And the bonus is we had an amazing view of the Superstition Mountains from our dining room window.
