Yoshi and Oso

Hello friends,

If you've had a chance to read about the sad loss of our sweet Peanut this past May (see 'Pet Peeves' tab above), you'll understand when we tell you that we had a difficult time after his passing.  When you're used to having a pet in the house, things are just not the same without one.

Peanut
This February, I turned sixty (yes, I know!!), and Marc mentioned it might be a good time to get another dog.  He suggested we get two, actually, so they could keep each other company.  After much
research on various breeds and rescue organizations, I was lucky to find two very sweet, two-year-old litter mates.  They are (once again) shih tzu and are so very handsome!  Of course, they weren't so handsome when we first brought them home.  It took me four days of snipping and cutting to get out all the tangles in their fur.

Did I mention Yoshi is white?!   Springtime is mud time!

Yoshi and Oso are perfect for us.  They make us laugh, listen very well and constantly tug at our heartstrings.  And I'm also happy to see they're not at all like Peanut was, so I'm not feeling guilty for replacing him.

Peanut, by 13, had traveled many roads with us and was the perfect travel companion.  We're hoping our two new little guys will do the same.  Yesterday, we took them on a 1.5-hour drive to and from Marc's sister's place in Rockland, Ontario.  The drive there was frustrating.  Oso was stressed out by sights and sounds, and Yoshi simply spent the entire time hidden under the driver's seat. The drive home was great, though.  It was dark out and there were less cars on the highway, so it was less noisy.

We will continue to prepare them for the long drive coming up this October.  If you have any tips on how to help dogs relax in the car, please share with us and our readership!

Thanks for sticking with 'Juanita's Journey' while we prepare to hit the road in the fall.
