Key West Tourist Scene

What a great three days we had in Key West!  The first day there, we were fortunate to have the benefit of two friends who are quite familiar with the area to act as our guides.  Of course, we could not
visit Key West without stopping by the Sponge Market!  (Click on picture above to enlarge, then catch the sponge guy on the right!  I don't even want to know how long he's been standing there!)

There are more stores than one could ever visit, most with the usual assortment of t-shirts, trinkets and jewellery.  As for restaurants, although there are dozens, they are always busy.  The big attraction is the seafood, for obvious reasons, and it does not disappoint.  There are restaurants for every taste and budget, and if you are a party animal, there are bars aplenty.  (In picture above, we are enjoying lunch at Sloppy Joe's, one of Hemmingway's favourite hangouts.)  (In picture below, you will note that, at this bar, customers tend to leave something of theirs behind, and for some reason, women seem to prefer leaving their unmentionables!  Victoria's Secret would be envious!)

There are a number of tours to choose from:  the Conch Train, the Trolley, even a Haunted tour.  And of special note is the Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square.  We are told that no one misses this particular attraction...except for us, of course!  We were so looking forward to the Sunset Celebration but after two days of walking and shopping (shopping can be tough, you know!), we decided to come back to the RV Park early this afternoon, take a quick nap, then head back in time to catch the fun.  Now, you know where this is going, right?  We overslept, woke at 5:00 p.m., rushed back to Mallory Square, but by the time we parked the truck, walked the 8 or 9 blocks, it was over.  Sadly, we are heading back to Bonita Springs in the morning.  Oh, well, maybe next time!

The cuteness award definitely goes to this restaurant, for thinking of Fido!  Dig the two-levels of water bowls for your dog to choose from!  This setup was directly in front of the restaurant, on the sidewalk, for easy access by all their canine friends.
