Yuma & San Luis

Ninety minutes south of Quartzsite is Yuma, a city inhabited by many winter visitors.  There are some attractions relating mostly to the "3:10 To Yuma" movie, i.e. the prison to which the bounty hunter
was struggling to bring the prisoner.  In our opinion, Yuma could be just about any southwestern town, with the usual shopping malls and fast food restaurants.

For this reason, we decided to move on to San Luis, a border town located 20 miles from Yuma.  Other than stopping for a quick lunch, we stayed in San Luis just long enough to walk to the border (as close as we could get).  We  were shocked at how grubby the border area was, with much graffiti everywhere, as you can see in the picture.  The people you see in the above picture are Mexican day workers on their way back across the border at the end of their work day.

On the way home, we came across a very sweet donkey named Charlie.  When Charlie saw us getting out of the car, he started to "hee haw" (don't know what this is called!) so loudly, we were sure the neighbours would come running to see what the ruckus was all about.  Turns out poor Charlie is all alone and is very lonely (and very dusty!).  We stayed to keep him company for a few minutes, then went on our way.

Charlie's Home...
All in all, this was not a trip we would recommend.

    1. What? Not cold in Sedona, if that's what you mean... Only cold at night, but very warm during the day.
